Packaging Design, Structural Engineering, Product Line Extensions
Position: In-house Creative Director & Brand Strategist
In 2019, the iconic brand Estes Rockets had new ownership, a new leader, and a new team to help bring this once-adored STEM toy and hobby back into the hearts of today’s space enthusiasts and rocketeers. The timing could not have been better, as the space industry was also amid its own comeback.
Estes, like many other brands, faced a plethora of packaging challenges, including no hierarchy and poor execution. The packaging needed to stand out more on a retail shelf or standalone on an eCommerce product page. While it safely secured the product in quality structures, the team could not create the die-lines for the windows to showcase the products, which are used extensively in the toy industry. These are just some challenges Estes could not solve.
Hired to direct the packaging design process, within just a few short months, the team revamped the existing packaging line and design two new product line extensions which fused fiction and reality to keep in line with customer expectations and current events.
The rebranding and redesign led to Estes securing additional shelf space in Target for two SKUs. In addition, we were a winner of the GDUSA packaging design award in 2021.
